About My Recipes

I have many inspirations when it comes to cooking; family recipes and traditions, cookbooks and blogs, local West Coast ingredients, ethnic cuisines, and to top it off, my family’s personal preferences. Sometimes I think about a flavor combination and experiment until I find just the right balance; other times I start with a recipe and tweak it to make it my own. Occasionally I find a recipe that is perfect just the way it is (despite my attempts to change it!).

I have several cookbooks and chefs that I find special inspiration from. Among them are The Joy of Cooking, Ina Garten, Laura Calder, and Jamie Oliver. While I don’t rely exclusively on these authors or cookbooks, I know that they turn out consistently well. I often compare a recipe I have found, or an idea I have, against one of their ideas, just to be sure that I am on the right track.

The recipes on my blog are intended to inspire creativity and hunger in those who read them, and expand the palate of those who try them. They are tried and tried again, and if I post a recipe, it is because our family enjoys eating it! Unless otherwise specified, these recipes are my own creations or interpretations. However, if I source something from a book or a blog, I’ll be sure to let you know!
